Jumpin' Party Posted 02/06/2006 by Andrew Coulton

Skydive Strathallan were delighted to once again host a big competition meet this bank holiday weekend for the British Collegiate Parachute Association. Unfortunately turbulence and shifty winds meant that despite the sunny weather there was little jumping to be had. Then again, perhaps that was a good thing - with the scale of the partying it's hard to imagine anyone would have been fit for jumping out of an aeroplane the next morning!
Never ones to miss an opportunity to show visitors a good time (and blessed with their status as Britain's last remaining members parachute club) Strathallan pulled out the stops in planning for this year's event. After a previous event last year, PROScenia were delighted to be asked back to convert the aircraft hangar into a party venue for the weekend.
We installed a full trussed lighting rig mixing conventional and moving lights, and a PA system all flown from the hangar roof. For the Saturday night we erected a circular stage for the Ceilidh band to play on - which looked particularly impressive with its white and blue golf ball lamps around the perimeter. The event was not without its challenges - notably the limited availability of power supplies. Fortunately our experience of installing and operating touring rigs in even the smallest venues, and some careful loading calculations, coupled with the assistance of club treasurer/electrician Eddie Jones, kept the juice flowing for the weekend.
Despite the lack of jumping, the weekend proved to be a great success for the club, with the evening entertainments thoroughly enjoyed by all. A number of the English students were particularly impressed, having never been to a Ceilidh before. PROScenia's Andrew Coulton was even seen dancing two nights out of three - his Ceilidh is apparently much better than his school disco however...
